Auburn center Reese Dismukes was awarded the 2014 Rimington Trophy, given to the nation’s most outstanding center, on Thursday December 11, 2014 at the ESPNU Red Carpet Show preceding the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
The winner of the Rimington Trophy is selected by determining the consensus All-America center pick from the Walter Camp, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America All-America teams.
“We are thrilled to have such an outstanding young man represent the Rimington Trophy while we celebrate 15 years,” said Dave Rimington, President of the Boomer Esiason Foundation. “He has excelled not only on the football field, but also in the classroom and is well-respected by teammates and coaches alike. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for him and wish him the best of luck.”
Dismukes, a Spanish Fort, Alabama native, becomes the 16th winner of the trophy, which is presented by the Boomer Esiason Foundation in honor of College Football Hall of Famer and former Nebraska All-America center Dave Rimington.
“This is a tremendous honor and accomplishment for Reese to be named the best center in all of college football,” said head coach Gus Malzahn. “He has played a large roll in the success of our offense at Auburn, leading the way for an offense that was first in the Southeastern Conference in rushing the last two years. Reese is a hard worker, extremely intelligent, and one of the best offensive linemen to every wear an Auburn uniform.”
Reese Dismukes is a four-year starter for Auburn and two-year captain (2013, 2014); a career during which he made 49 consecutive starts at center, tying for the second-most starts in school history and most among current SEC lineman. In 2014 while starting all 12 games, playing 864 snaps, and boasting a team-best 91.4 percent grade on the offensive line with 61 knockdowns, Dismukes helped Auburn lead the SEC in rushing.
J.B. Grimes, Auburn offensive line coach, on his center: “There is nobody more deserving of the Rimington Trophy than Reese Dismukes. The number one thing I look for in a player is consistency, and there’s no one more consistent day-in and day-out in practice and in games than Reese. He’s taken nearly every snap in his four years and never had a bad game, let alone a bad play. I’ve coached a lot of really good centers in my career, and I’ve not had one like him. He is a warrior and the most intelligent players I’ve ever coached, and I couldn’t be more proud of Reese and his accomplishments.”
Reese has also enjoyed a number of storied honors including Outland Trophy finalist and Rotary Lombardi Award semifinalist; two-time first-team All-SEC (2013, 2014), and Sporting News third-team All-American as a junior in 2013 after helping Auburn lead the nation in rushing and first in the SEC in total offense while winning a conference title and a berth in the BCS National Championship game. Dismukes was also an SEC Academic Honor Roll recipient as a junior and won the Ken Rice Award as Auburn’s best blocking back.
Dismukes, who will be graduating from Auburn University this Saturday, will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, January 11, 2014.
